Between 1987 and 2017, Armen Aroyan led over 1,400 “pilgrims” to historic Western Armenia, allowing them to (re)discover the cities, towns, and villages from which their ancestors originated. All returned home with a sense of accomplishment and a better understanding of the life of their forefathers. Among the travelers were many scholars whose experiences exploring Western Armenia provided them with first-hand information to inform their research and academic work. We offer this symposium, featuring a distinguished and diverse group of researchers, in recognition of Armen Aroyan’s tireless dedication to (re)connecting the descendants and survivors of the Armenian Genocide as well as other interested individuals to these lands.
