Policy for the Donation of Items to NAASR’s Mardigian Library

NAASR’s Edward and Helen Mardigian Library welcomes donations to its collection of more than 35,000 books, pamphlets, periodicals, maps, and documents primarily concerned with Armenia, the Armenians, and relevant related areas.

The library is subject to space and resource limitations which limit our ability to accept gifts of materials; therefore, we reserve the right to determine and select the materials for the library.

Potential donors of material should provide a list of books or other items (or, if this is not possible, digital images of the items) to Ani Babaian, Library Curator, via mail at ani@naasr.org or to Marc Mamigonian, Director of Academic Affairs, at marc@naasr.org. The library cannot accept materials delivered prior to confirmation from the Library Curator or Academic Director regarding acceptance of the items.

Materials donated to the Mardigian Library will become the property of NAASR and are not returnable.  Donations are tax deductible within IRS guidelines.  Monetary appraisals of gifts are the responsibility of the donor. In accordance with United States tax regulations, the library is not permitted to make appraisals of gifts.

NAASR will provide an acknowledgement letter in a timely manner. This letter will include a brief description and a count of items donated but will not list each item.

The library will not accept materials that have water damage, mold, or mildew.

Except in unusual circumstances to be determined by NAASR, we cannot accept:

  1. Unsolicited donations
  2. Items that duplicate existing holdings
  3. Outdated media formats such as VHS and cassettes
  4. Materials in poor physical condition

Arrangements for delivery or pickup of the donated items must be agreed upon with NAASR before the items can be received.
