By Lorne Shirinian
Rendering the Timeline is Lorne Shirinian's fifth book of poetry. The poems, often raw, explore the concerns of an aging writer who has spent his life writing and trying to understand the Armenian Genocide in 1915 that took most of his father's and mother's families. In contrast to the pain of the loss, there are poems of love for his wife, sons, and grandsons. As Shirinian explains in the Prologue, the metaphor underlying the book is that of rendering a film. Only at the end of this process can the work become a meaningful artifact, like a poem, a book, like a life.
