I was the sixth of the ten children born to Krikor Haroutune Goekjian and his wife Mariam, daughter of Kevork Kupelian. I was born on the 26th of August, 1894, in Kusdum Koeyu, in the district of Karajali (a resort area in the Taurus Mountains) in Cilicia (Adana), where many of the Armenian residents of Sis - my own family included - kept summer houses.
