ARMENIA AND THE ART OF ENGRAVING - L'armenie et l'art de l'estamp
Edited by Richard A. Chahine
“Our intention in this volume has been to introduce the general public to old manuscripts as well as ancient editions of books by citing texts which bear witness to the epoch and by reproducing illustrations of painters of world renown who sketched from life the sites, the people and their customs. These sketches were then engraved with burin on wood, copper, steel or stone before serving as illustrations in the works dedicated to Armenia. Besides the engravings which are the principal subject of this collection, we have included some illuminations of manuscripts which are, in fact, at the origin of the technique of gravure. Finally, some photographs illustrate the important Armenian sites which cannot be passed over in silence but which, to our knowledge, have not been engraved.”—Richard A. Chahine.
