It was not intended to present an epic literary or political work, but to tender a modest tribute to the one and a half million victims who perished during the largest-scale atrocity of the twentieth century, to a people whose ancestors were the first in the world to accept Christianity as their national religion—the Armenian martyrs of the Turkish genocide.
