This all day symposium is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the life and legacy of UCLA Professor Richard G. Hovannisian who was a faculty member at UCLA for over 50 years and was the first holder of the Armenian Educational Foundation Professorial Chair in Modern Armenian History, now named in his honor.

ARMENIAN DIASPORA(S) IN MOTION: Places, Stakeholders and Practices in the 21st Century ~ Thursday and Friday, March 14-15, 2024 ~ In-Person Event

The objective of this two-day international conference will be to reflect on these contemporary reshapings of the Armenian diaspora(s), revealing their diversity and the new dynamics at work. The colloquium will be video recorded for later release. The proceedings of the conference will be published in Études arméniennes contemporaines, the bilingual journal of the AGBU Nubar Library.

ARMENO-INDICA: Four Centuries of Togetherness and Familiarity ~ Friday/Saturday, March 17-18, 2023 ~ In-Person and On Zoom

Gathering an international group of scholars, Armeno-Indica explores the Indo-Armenian saga in South Asia from the seventeenth to the twenty-first centuries. Themes to be explored include the connected economic, literary, legal, and political histories of Armenians and Indians in South Asia and beyond across the waters of the Indian Ocean. The keynote for the conference will be delivered by Professor Sanjay Subrahmanyam.

TECHNOLOGIES OF COMMUNICATION AND ARMENIAN NARRATIVE PRACTICES THROUGH THE CENTURIES: International Conference ~ Saturday & Sunday, September 17-18, 2022 ~ IN Person

Focusing on technologies of communication (i.e., manuscripts, print, visual, and digital media) the Technologies of Communication and Armenian Narrative Practices Through the Centuries: International Conference aims to foster an interdisciplinary conversation with researchers working across historical periods around the question of how technologies of communication have impacted Armenian narrative style and practices (such as modes of storytelling, narrative structure, and exegetical principles), and reversely how Armenian narrative practices have shaped each new technology.
