Odyssey of an Armenian of Zeitoun
by Khoren K. Davidson
with a Foreword by Aram Saroyan
Many books have been written about the so-called "War to End all Wars." Authors have written an infinite number of words on the misery of trench warfare, the dissolution of the last great empire, and the wholesale destruction launched upon Europe, depriving many nations of virtually an entire generation. But one story seems to have been forgotten -forgotten, that is, by the historians. The agonies of the Armenian people can never be forgotten by any who witnessed this butchery. Now one of the few survivors, Khoren K. Davidson, has told this tragic story in heartrending detail.
A young man at the time World War I began, Mr. Davidson witnessed the mass deportations of Armenians. He saw the rivers of his native land filled with bodies of men, women, and children, innocent victims of the savage onslaught of the Turks. His own family was massacred, condemned for the sin of being Armenian. Much of the author's time was spent fleeing over the countryside, a refugee in his own beloved homeland. But Mr. Davidson survived, and thus we have his book, Odyssey of an Armenian of Zeitoun. Included are some remarkable photographs, which the author took himself. More than a memoir, this volume is a tribute to a valiant people and an excruciating reminder of the horror of war.
