AMBERD 5: DOCUMENTS OF ARMENIAN ARCHITECTURE

Armenia and her princes built over the centuries, numerous means of defense in order to survive against war-like adversaries. These many fortresses, residences today are an irreplaceable characteristic of the Armenian countryside and are invaluable to the study of the history and institutions of the Armenian people. The Amberd fortress and church (X-XIVth centuries) are particularly interesting examples of constructions arising in answer to a particular need.
