Return to Calendar-Year Memberships

As of January 1, 2026, NAASR has returned to a calendar-year membership system, with all memberships running from January 1 through December 31.

NAASR operated on a calendar-year basis from its founding until about a decade ago, and this structure provides a clear and consistent framework for membership. Under this model, all members share the same membership year and renewal period.

Why This Change Was Made

  • Membership dues represent a significant and vital portion of NAASR’s annual cash flow. Receiving membership support earlier in the year allows NAASR to plan more effectively for the months ahead.
  • A predictable membership cycle allows the organization to make better-informed decisions about programs, initiatives, and long-term priorities. It strengthens NAASR’s ability to grow while maintaining a stable and sustainable financial foundation.
  • Returning to a calendar-year membership system helps NAASR maintain clear and consistent membership records and simplify renewal and acknowledgment processes, allowing us to devote more of our time and resources to supporting Armenian Studies and serving our members.

What This Means for Members

  • Memberships run January–December regardless of the date of renewal.
  • Members who renew during the year will remain active through December 31 of that year.
  • Renewal notices will be sent near the beginning of each year, with follow-up reminders in the spring and again in advance of the Annual Assembly.
  • Members who renew early in the year will not receive membership solicitations until the following year.

During the transition back to the calendar-year system, some members may be asked to renew earlier than they expected. This one-time adjustment ensures that all memberships will be aligned on a January–December schedule going forward.

We recognize that membership payments — especially Leadership Circle dues — represent a meaningful commitment. If the timing of renewal raises questions or concerns, members are welcome to reply to any membership email or contact NAASR directly at hq@naasr.org or at (617) 489-1610 extension 105.

Automatically Recurring Memberships

Members enrolled in automatic recurring membership continue to be treated as members in good standing without interruption, regardless of when their dues payment is processed.

Recurring members remain active from year to year unless:

  • They choose to cancel their membership, or
  • An automatic payment cannot be processed (for example, if a credit card is declined or expires).

If a payment issue arises, NAASR will contact the member to resolve the problem and restore the membership as quickly as possible.

Members with recurring memberships do not need to take any action in order to remain active.
