By Jakob Kunzler, Edited with Preface by Ara Ghazarians, Foreword by Vahakn Dadrian, Introduction by Hans-Lukas Kieser

From 1899 to 1922 Jakob Kunzler and his wife Elizabeth worked in a mission hospital in the multi-ethnic city of Urfa (today southeast Turkey). He saw at close hand how the Young Turk war regime carried out genocide against the Ottoman Armenians - the first genocide of the twentieth century. During his vacation at home in Basel in 1919/1920 Kunzler wrote down his experiences in plain language. His disturbing report is a unique historical document, and, as paradoxical as it may seem, a declaration of love to a country of different religions and languages and its people.
