By Zabel Asadour, Translated by Nishan Parlakian

In the short play The Bride, Asadour depicts a marriage of love not convenience. Arousiag is not a hardened or seasoned bride, but retains her innocence and purity and remains a dutiful, loving wife, who is forced to uphold what is right, even if her in-laws have to be unmasked. She is honorable, patient, clever, resourceful, idealistic in her love for her husband, but she also embodies a distinctive new quality that is not revolt in the gross sense but large understanding which she is able to turn to her advantage in the battle for place and respect.
