Gathered Words tells of Armenians and Greeks who remember the shame and humiliation of living on the lowest rung of America's societal ladder; the immigrants who might rightly question their decision to leave the familiar despite threats of imprisonment and/or death.

The story unravels when Selim, a Turkish history professor living in Istanbul, and his ex-lover Mari, an American born Armenian photographer, find a buried Cache of old artistic objects of national and cultural significance. A conflict arises between them ... to whom do these valuable belong? Should they remain in the country of origin or should they be returned to the family of the artist? While each struggles with their own set of cultural values and family traditions, it is a young woman from Fresno, California who inadvertently provides the link to the answer of this pervasive question.
