By Lorne Shirinian

Like Standing on Shifting Sands is a novel written in three sections: Jake and Hannah, Restlessness and Like Standing on Shifting Sands. Three writers met in a café in Toronto and formed a friendship. They found themselves with publishing contracts; however, their pasts continued to affect their lives. Jake Calman was kidnapped; after eight months, he escaped but, the head of the gang seeks revenge for the killing of his brother. Jake’s two friends also have become targets. Lorne Ben Tudela gets a teaching job in Armenia and leaves. He is safe for only a short while until he returns. Jacob Levy, whose parents had escaped from Salonica before the Nazi invasion and resettled in New York, writes a history of his family. The three continue to work in this tense environment.
