By Naomi Getsoyan Topalian

The author spent years gathering the information of her mother Zarouhi's experiences. Zarouhi, along with her husband, toddler and infant left Marash in Turkish Armenia during World War I to save their lives, and along with many other Armenians who left Marash then, emigrated to Aleppo and Damascus, Syria and from there to Beirut, Lebanon, all amid hardships, where they rebuilt their lives and community. Her entry into America at the age of 78 thus becomes a triumph, but the real triumph is that of her faith and courage with which she has inspired her family at every step to survive, endure, and achieve.
