Join Muriel Mirak-Weissbach at the Armenian Cultural Foundation in Arlington for the launch of her book A German General and the Armenian Genocide.

This talk will present Armenian narratives of the period that point to the entanglement of Armenian Christian and Muslim communities, the deterioration of relations between them, and the pressures that exacerbated the decline. In addition, it will analyze a set of 12th-century martyrologies and argue that they provide unique insights into strategies promoted to negotiate the rapidly changing socio-political context.

Finding Armenia will provide a timely and thought-provoking personal account of what it means to be Armenian today, and how Armenians’ identity and moral place in the world has been profoundly changed.

Lisa Misakian and Gregory Jundanian share their recent work to document the vibrant Armenian-American community of Whitinsville, which in many ways has much in common with other North American communities where Armenians found and redefined themselves in the 19th and 20th centuries.
