NAASR Receives 2021 SHARP Grant

We are excited to announce that NAASR has received a Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan - SHARP grant from Mass Humanities, with funding made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities. This grant helps us recover during the pandemic and increase educational initiatives for our growing online audience. We are honored to be selected as a SHARP grant recipient! Mass Humanities received requests from more than 140 organizations. SHARP grants of up to $15,000 were awarded to retain or recruit staff, replace lost revenue, and rebuild audiences. The National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR) is looking for a dynamic and dedicated person as its next Executive Director. Sarah Ignatius, the current Executive Director, is retiring but will continue in the position until it is filled and will serve as Executive Advisor to the new Executive Director to ease the transition.

In Memoriam: Van M. Aroian (1927-2021) ~ Long-Serving NAASR Board Member and Charter Member

NAASR announces with sadness the passing on July 14, 2021 of Van M. Aroian of Worcester, MA, the senior member of its Board of Directors, at the age of 94. Aroian was a Charter Member of NAASR, having joined in the organization’s first year, 1955, and served on its Board of Directors since 1992, including many years on the Executive Committee.

The grant for “The Avedis Derounian Archive at NAASR: A Vital Resource on US-Based Extremism,” is part of a new round of Mass Humanities grant-making, totaling more than $250,000 to 59 cultural organizations to reach their audiences digitally due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with funding provided through the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
