FEATURED SPEAKER:
Dr. Nzhdeh Yeranyan, Deputy Scientific Director at the History Museum of Armenia and Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Cornell University. He is a cultural anthropologist specializing in the preservation and management of cultural heritage, particularly in crisis, conflict, and post-conflict situations. His research focuses on the colonial and postcolonial archaeology of Armenia, the Bronze-Iron Age landscape, and the preservation of the cultural heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh, including the protection of museums and collections.
The History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan, often referred to as the “Mother Museum,” is a national cultural institution dedicated to collecting, preserving, studying, and exhibiting the material and intangible heritage of Armenia and the Armenian people. With over a century of history, the museum houses more than 400,000 objects, including archaeological, ethnographic, and numismatic collections. These artifacts offer a comprehensive picture of Armenian culture and history—from prehistoric times (1.8 million years ago) to the present day. This lecture will explore key episodes of Armenian history and culture through 30 selected objects, each revealing a unique and compelling story.
