NAASR Statement on September 19, 2023, Attack on Artsakh / Nagorno-Karabakh

Armenia Artsakh Azerbaijan Genocide NAASR Nagorno Karabakh

The National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR) joins with other Armenian and non-Armenian groups in condemning the attacks carried out today by Azerbaijan against the Armenians in Artsakh / Nagorno-Karabakh.

This military assault, while shocking in its violence, is itself also the utterly predictable next step in a process aimed at eliminating the remaining 120,000 Armenians in Artsakh; a process that even before today’s attacks had been described by many experts and human rights organizations as a genocide in progress.

Azerbaijan is run by a criminal regime that suppresses freedom of the press, crushes dissent, foments hatred against Armenians, illegally blockades 120,000 Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, engages in a worldwide illegal effort to bribe officials and launder money, and has earned a ranking of “not free” from Freedom House which places it among the least free societies on earth.  The callous indifference of the world will allow it to add “genocide perpetrator” to this list of dishonor.

We urge our members and friends to raise your voices and use whatever means you have at your disposal to inform elected officials and others in positions of power to take action NOW to stop the killing and to prevent the unfolding of another Armenian Genocide.
