The work of the Armenian poet Gevorg Emin, State Prize winner is widely know to readers in the Soviet Union and Abroad, chiefly through translations in the magazine Soviet Literature and Progress publications.

This present edition is the first volume of Emin's poetry translated (from Russian) into English, a choice of his best work produced during a quarter of a century. In these Songs of Armenia, his ancient yet young native land, the author offers a poetic account of "his time and himself," the thoughts and feelings of a living contemporary.

The book is a profound, true record of meditations about the place of the Armenian people in the Soviet family of nations, about their brotherhood, deeply rooted in geography and history, culture and economy, cemented by blood shed in common struggles.
